A naming ceremony can be used in place of a Christening. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate into the world the birth of your precious child as well as their name. This ceremony can be as formal or as casual as you like, from a backyard BBQ to a grand marquee down by the beach. In these circumstances, I perform a non-religous ceremony, usually at the child’s 1st birthday, and we welcome the child into the family and into the community.
Most often, the parents will state their love and commitment to their child and declare hopes for their future. You may want to choose a special family member or close friend to be part of the ceremony. Instead of selecting godparents, whose traditional role is to help guide the child in a Christian life, you can choose “supporting adults”, “life guardians” or “mentors” (who may be friends or family) that are willing to say that they will be there for your child as he or she grows up and throughout their life in whatever way is needed.
From the selection of music, poems, readings, and speeches, I will help design the perfect naming ceremony to celebrate the birth of your child. The naming ceremony does not only represent the celebration of a new life but also your commitment to being the best parent you can be as we as the supporting adults pledging their unconditional support.
